Sandvik expands Pune design centre

Pune May 21 Sandvik Asia Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of the $10-billion Swedish group Sandvik, has completed a Rs 10 crore expansion of its Pune Design & Development centre, making it an independent engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) company in materials handling.

The 130-people strong centre is now geared to design various machines and projects handling coal and iron ore of over 20,000 tonnes per hour. Spread over 28,500 sq.ft, it will enable Sandvik to provide enhanced engineering capacity for bulk handling machines and for plant contracts undertaken in India.

Mr Hakan Kingstedt, Managing Director & President, Sandvik Asia, said, "The expansion is in line with our strategy to strengthen our Asian platform. The continuous expansion of Sandvik's engineering capacity and related building infrastructure in India demonstrates the confidence of the company's global project team in the ability of the Indian subsidiary to consistently deliver high quality engineering solution and services."

Sandvik's Pune centre will cater to higher engineering demand from group companies in Europe and other parts of the world. It is equipped to undertake concept design, basic design, detail engineering, structural calculations and design, 3-D modelling, electrical engineering and design of control and automation related to machines and projects of bulk materials handling while generating 250,000 engineering hours annually.

Sandvik markets machines, plants/projects supported by in-house engineering and design. The design and development centres located in Pune, Bangalore, Kolkata and Delhi. India also cater to engineering needs for the group's projects worldwide.
