Larsen & Toubro's Heavy Engineering division has completed building one of the world's largest FCC regenerators and combustors, a crucial part of the Reliance Petroleum's refinery coming up at Jamnagar in Gujarat.

A company press release said the project was completed six weeks ahead of schedule. The company had received the order, after a global competition, in November 2005. The equipment has a 16.3-m diameter and an overall length of 40 m, with its weight being 1,320 tonnes. The material used for construction of the equipment is carbon-manganese steel with more than 170 tonnes of stainless steel internals. The equipment was flagged off on Monday and is expected to reach Jamnagar by the end of the month.
