Piaggio plans exclusive four-wheeler retail chain

Mayur N. Shah

MR RAVI CHOPRA

Mumbai May 22 Piaggio Vehicles is all set to launch a sub-one-tonne four-wheeler with a difference.

The company will introduce the vehicle in a span of two months through an exclusive dealer network in the country, wherein a separate chain of dealerships will promote the four-wheeler alongside its existing chain of three-wheeler outlets (230 dealers and 230 sales outpoints).

rationale

On the rationale behind the exclusive dealer network, Mr Ravi Chopra, Managing Director, said that it was the company's policy and decision to have exclusive focus for different range of products. "This would be clearly highlighted in present and forthcoming products."

Though the owner of a new retail outlet could be an existing Piaggio three-wheeler dealer, the new chain of dealerships would have a separate team, working capital, infrastructure, etc.

"These initiatives are taken in order to enhance customer focus in the end."

The company has asked its existing chain of dealerships to set up a retail establishment with retail display space of 2,000 sq ft and 5,000 sq ft for the service bay.

Piaggio will introduce the vehicle in select areas initially.

South first

Mr Chopra said that due to the readiness on the part of dealers in the South, as far as setting up retail infrastructure is concerned, the company has plans to launch the vehicle in the region.

After studying market response and feedback, the company will slowly expand its retail network across the country.

The company intends to have more than 100 dealerships when it has established a countrywide presence for the planned vehicle.

Mr Chopra said that the vehicle would cater to various applications as per customer requirement.
