Opinion - Letters
Land shortage

The editorial `Landing in trouble' (Business Line, May 16) is a timely caution to the Government and a true reflection of the state of affairs on the agricultural front.

Land becomes dear in a country in which agriculture is the backbone of the economy.

Besides, in a country of India's size and population, the problem of securing adequate land is difficult.

But uncultivable land does exist in all States, though devoid of the essential requirements needed for agricultural and industrial use, such as roads and communication infrastructure.

It is not difficult for States to identify and make a list of such lands and examine what steps need to be taken to make them usable for industrial purposes.
