DD launches mobile TV service

Doordarshan has launched its mobile TV service with eight of its channels on offer. The state-owned broadcaster is the first to launch its services on the DVB-H (Digital Video Broadcasting-Handheld) compliant mobile handsets. It is now available only in New Delhi, within a radius of about 10-12 km from Akashvani Bhavan, Parliament Street and only between 5.30 a.m. and up to midnight, the service is currently free of cost. Cellphone majors such as Nokia, DD's partner on the DVB-H pilot project, and Samsung have already announced the launch of DVB-H compliant handsets. The handsets cost around Rs 35,000.
