WELCOMING PARTNERSHIP: The Lord Mayor of London, Mr John Stuttard (left), along with the British Deputy High Commissioner, Mr Simon Wilson, in front of Writers Buildings after meeting the Chief Minister of West Bengal on Wednesday in Kolkata.

Writers Building, which became the Secretariat of the West Bengal Government, was constructed in 1780 by the East India Company. The sprawling building, which has undergone a series of architectural facelift, was initially the dwelling place for the writers of the East India Company.
