SE Rly defers 24-hour work scheme in Shalimar shed

Our Bureau

Kolkata May 24 The South Eastern Railway (SER) has decided to defer the implementation of the 24-hour work scheme in its Shalimar goods shed till June 10 in view of the opposition to it by a section of workers and transport operators involved in unloading of the goods from the rakes and the transportation of the same out of the shed. However, the striking workers did not resume till the evening, according to SER sources.

Demurrage

The strikers, it is learnt, are insisting on the total waiver of demurrage and other charges on the goods lying accumulated in the shed for the past few days as a sequel to the strike. The total amount of these charges, it is estimated, will be more than Rs 15 lakh.
