Chamber moots 4-tier coach

Our Correspondent

Madurai, May 24

The Sattur Chamber of Commerce and Industry has suggested the introduction of four-tier sleeper coaches and double trucker chair cars to address the problem of overcrowded trains. In a letter addressed to the Union Minister for Railways, Mr Laloo Prasad, the Chamber Secretary, Mr P.T.K.A. Balasubramanian, said that despite the introduction of special trains with not less than 20 coaches, especially during summer holidays, there was an abnormal increase the number of people travelling by trains. To overcome this problem, he has suggested that in the place of the present three-tier coaches, four-tier sleeper coaches may be designed by raising the height of the coach.
