Jewellers plan bandh on May 30

Mumbai May 24 The All-India Gems & Jewellery Trade Federation (GIF) along with state association of jewellers Maharashtra Rajya Saraf Mahamandal (MRSM) has declared a State-wide bandh on May 30.

Bandh is called for drawing attention of the state officials towards the crimes committed against jewellers in Maharashtra. The jewellers from all over the State will take part in a dharna at Azad Maidan.

Both the administrative bodies will make a representation to the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister seeking urgent intervention in the matter of security of jewellers.

Between June 2006 and May 2007 dacoity worth over Rs 4 crore has taken pace in various parts of Mumbai and around, according to a release.

Industry comprising 6 lakh persons from across Maharashtra will keep their shutters down on the bandh day. MRSM represents 1 lakh jewellers throughout Maharashtra while GJF represents 3 lakh jewellers, said the release.
