Sunil Mittal is new CII President

Mr Sunil Bharti Mittal, Chairman and CEO, Bharti Enterprises, has been elected President of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for 2007-08. He succeeds Mr R. Seshasayee, Managing Director, Ashok Leyland.
Mr K.V. Kamath, Managing Director and CEO, ICICI Bank, was elected Vice-President of the chamber.
While speaking at the annual session of the chamber on Thursday, Mr Mittal said that the CII would work towards sustainable development and inclusive growth.
Earlier, Mr Seshasayee said, "Innovation is indeed the only way to ensure that Indian industry remains relevant in a world that is fast becoming a knowledge economy". For innovation to flourish, he added, "we need an eco-system that amongst others, should consist of institutions of higher learning an agile law enforcement system and a judiciary that acts speedily to protect intellectual property."
He said that the CII has launched a mission on knowledge and skills.
Later in the session, Mr Scott Bayman, President and CEO, GE India, talked about India's advantages vis-à-vis China in terms of a much more efficient use of capital, the presence of a well-regulated financial system, a well-entrenched private sector and the presence of world-class executives.
