Training would be given to any body who would be interested to avail the facility including school dropouts, existing workers, ITI graduates.
New Delhi May 24 In order to increase the employability of the labour force through development of skills suitable for the ongoing industrialisation process, the Government today earmarked a corpus of Rs 550 crore for training one million persons above the age of 15 over the next five years. Training would be given to anybody who would be interested to avail the facility including school dropouts, existing workers, ITI graduates. The minimum qualification for school dropouts would be completion of 5th standard. Workers who have already acquired certain skills through years of hands on work but with no formal certification would also be able to get tested and certified under this scheme. This skill development initiative was approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) here today. Briefing reporters after the meeting, the Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Mr P.R. Dasmunsi, said that "while the minimum age limit for persons to take part in the scheme is 15 years, there is no upper age limit." It would be a fully centrally sponsored scheme, he said. According to the scheme, around Rs 5,000 would be spent per person for providing the training and certification. "Direct expenses for a million people would be Rs 500 crore. In addition, expenditure on training support services, administrative cost would be Rs 50 crore," the Minister said.
Providing Training
Training would be provided through optimal utilisation of the available infrastructure in various Government and private institutions and industry. The institutions that would be providing the training under this scheme will include various Vocational Training Providers (VTPs) under Central and State Governments, public and private sector and industrial establishments.
