Cisco, RSA to jointly develop technology

Our Bureau

Coimbatore May 25 Cisco and RSA, the security division of EMC, have decided to work together to develop a technology that would help customers improve and simplify the encryption of confidential information such as medical records, social security and credit card numbers.

"The technology would help encrypt data-at-rest on tapes and other types of storage media and help manage the associated encryption keys within the storage area network infrastructure," a statement issued by the company said.

The partners, by using Cisco's storage media encryption technology, would enable customers meet various regulatory and privacy requirements by ensuring that confidential information is not compromised if a storage tape or disk is lost or stolen.

"Security threats are no longer confined to companies with backup tapes stored at an off-site facility. Organisations are today exploring encryption option because of the threat of losing data," Mr Rajeev Bharadwaj, Director (Product Management), Data Centre Business Unit, Cisco, said.
