No political vendetta: Mayawati

New Delhi, May 25

The Uttar Pradesh (UP) Government's move to recommend cancellation of the approval granted to the Reliance ADA Group's special economic zone (SEZ) in Noida was not due to political vendetta but because of violation of regulations, UP's Chief Minister, Ms Mayawati, clarified today.

While addressing a conference in the Capital, Ms Mayawati said, "Only those decision of the former Government will be reviewed that either violate rules or are against public interest."

On Thursday, the State Cabinet had decided to scrap the permission to the 1,200-acre Reliance SEZ on the grounds that it was not contiguous land area. Following the decision, the Reliance ADA Group has reacted by saying that the Ministry of Commerce allows SEZs with non-contiguous areas after an amendment was brought about it on March 16.
