Outlook Marketing - Retailing Roca eyes domestic market for acquisitions Our Bureau
Bangalore
May 26
Spanish sanitaryware company Roca, which is in a 50:50 joint venture with EID Parry, plans to invest
Other plans include expanding retail network from the current 10 stores to 50 and ramping up manufacturing capacities in the country.
As a brand, Roca is eyeing 10 per cent of the premium sanitaryware segment in India (the total market here is worth Rs 800 crore; the premium segment accounts for Rs 100 crore), said Mr Emilio Salazar, Deputy Managing Director, Parryware Roca Ltd, who was here in Bangalore to inaugurate the company's first store in South India. Exclusive stores and shop-in-shops are also present in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Guwahati. The target is to have 50 stores by 2007-08 in both formats.
Manufacturing planned
Roca also plans to start manufacturing through Parryware's facilities in Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan by the end of this financial year. About 1-lakh pieces will be manufactured in the first year of operations. It will be scaled up to 0.5 million pieces in three years, said Mr Salazar.
The joint venture company Parryware Roca, set up in April 2006, clocked a sales turnover of Rs 300 crore in 200-07. This year, the company hopes to double this figure.
The € 1.6-billion Roca has 54 factories in 20 countries, with a total manufacturing capacity of 30 million pieces a year. The company's sanitaryware is sold in about 80 countries worldwide.
