Shipping Orissa to fly high
PARADIP PORT could take the lead in launching an helicopter service. If the report doing the round is any indication, Orissa's first public helicopter service is to be launched in not-too-distant future. Some State-based entrepreneurs, reportedly not with any record of experience in civil aviation though, are believed to be mulling introducing a helicopter service between Bhubaneswar, Barbil and Paradip. The Barbil area, encompassing iron ore mines, is set to emerge the country's major iron and steel belt. With investments will arise the need for better infrastructure. The corporate bigwigs would like to commute fast. Precisely for the same reason, Paradip is also being considered for inclusion in the itinerary. The Paradip Port Trust, it is felt, should take the lead in this matter as it already has a helipad. However, this also confirms the poor road condition in the State. A senior official from the Union Surface Transport Ministry recently visited Bhubaneswar and held meetings with the State government officials to expedite work on the various road projects in Orissa.
