`Our plan is to take farmers from southern Karnataka to northern Karnataka and vice-versa on a tour.'

Mangalore May 27 Bharathi Tourism Development Co-operative Ltd (BTDC), a multi-State co-operative, is planning to introduce a special tour package for farmers in Karnataka.

The package is planned as part of 50 years of the State's formation.

Speaking to newspersons, Mr K. Padmanabha, Chairman of BTDC, said that the co-operative has submitted a proposal to the Government in this regard.

"Our plan is to take farmers from southern Karnataka to northern Karnataka and vice-versa on a tour," he said.

"Apart from visiting places of interest in those places, they will also get to interact with farmers at the places of visit and their farming practices."

The aim is to provide tourism opportunities to small and medium farmers.

The co-operative has approached the State Government with this proposal, he said.

This year, the co-operative has come out with a special package to those visiting Kailas Manasa Sarovar.

For this, it has tied up with Mangalore-based Nirmala Travels.

Terming the package offered by it as one of the cheapest, Mr Padmanabha said that BTDC has plans to take 500 people to Manasa Sarovar from June to August this year.

The co-operative, which has operations in Karnataka, Kerala and Goa, has been operating tour packages to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Gujarat and Goa.

He said that BTDC is a pioneering attempt to establish, develop and promote tourism business upholding co-operative principles.

Its aim is to provide a better tourism experience to the common man.

"Our endeavour is to bring about a co-ordinated approach to tap the huge tourism potential of the country."
