Kolkata May 27 Global Hospitals, a Hyderabad-based hospital chain, has tied up with the Sureka Group, a city-based real estate developer, to set up a 300-bed transplantation and tertiary care centre in Kolkata. Mr Pradeep Sureka, Director of the Sureka Group, said that Global Hospitals will have majority stake in Global Sunrise, the special purpose vehicle (SPV) formed for this purpose. Dr K. Ravindranath, Chairman and Managing Director of Global Hospitals, told newspersons that the Kolkata facility, spread over three acres, will require an investment of Rs 150 crore in the first phase and is expected to be functional in 18-21 months. In the second phase, Global Hospitals plans to have nearly 750 beds with an additional investment of Rs 150 crore. "We will expand to 750 beds after acquiring some more land," Dr Ravindranath said, adding that seven more acres would be needed for the expansion. The Kolkata facility will have both cadaver and donor transplant facility and provide treatment for liver, kidney, heart, lung, bone marrow and gastrointestinal system-related diseases. The hospital, which will have more than 50 specialties, will also house rehabilitation facilities, a spa and an international patient floor. Doctors would be hired both from within the country and abroad. On expansion plans, Dr Ravindranath said that the company plans to have a presence in all the metros in 2-3 years. "We will invest nearly Rs 650 crore and have nearly 2,500 beds by 2009," he added. Global Hospitals currently has hospitals in Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai and Mumbai. The company plans to set up a hospital in Delhi next year.
