Asia Motor Works plans 5,000 trucks sale this year

Our Bureau

Visakhapatnam May 27 Asia Motor Works Ltd (AMW), the new entrant in the heavy commercial vehicles industry, has ambitious plans to sell 5,000 trucks during this financial year, according to Mr Anirudh Bhuwalka, Managing Director and CEO.

At a press meet on the occasion of appointing a dealer here (DRD Trucks India Pvt Ltd), he said the company had made great strides during one year, selling 1,000 vehicles. "Our plant at Bhuj, Gujarat, has the capacity to manufacture 10,000 vehicles a year and, as our product is gaining market acceptance, we are confident of full capacity utilisation soon. We have invested more than Rs 500 crore on the plant," he added.

Tonnage capacity

Explaining the USP of the vehicle, Mr Bhuwalka said the company had for the first time introduced 49-tonne trucks in the country. "Effectively, our truck can carry 35 tonnes. Unlike the trucks of our competitors, which can only carry 24-25 tonnes, our truck offers more to the operators in terms of cost per tonne per km.

"Though our truck is priced at Rs 14 lakh, against Rs 12 lakh of our competitors, the economical operating costs more than make up for the slightly higher capital costs. Therefore, more operators are opting for our vehicle," he said.

Global Truck series

Mr Bhuwalka said the company was selling seven models under the Global Truck series. "It is a new generation truck, with an air-conditioned cabin for the driver, and the price range is Rs 14 lakh to Rs 28 lakh," he added.
