Plastic for roads

It is sad that the idea of recycling plastic by adding it to bitumen in roads has still not taken off, despite its very obvious benefits and though it is five years since this low-cost technology was first used. When will we convert the mountains of trash all around us into stronger roads?

The technology is easy to put into practice, it is cheaper, and it keeps dangerous trash off the roads.

All that is needed to make a difference is the political and institutional will. Costs cannot matter when the cost of recycling plastic is factored in. Add to that the cost that the plastic imposes by way of biohazards!

In India, plastic bags clog our drains in the monsoon, poison our grazing cattle, and pile up in unsightly heaps, releasing harmful dioxins into the atmosphere. Please recycle and reuse plastic; we're getting snowed under, and the sight is not pretty.
