Convergence Industry & Economy - Radio/TV Apalya develops video streaming tool for mobiles V. Rishi Kumar
Hyderabad May 28 Apalya, a Hyderabad-based technology start-up, has developed a technology solution that helps television companies stream video and offer Mobile TV as a value-added service. The company states that video-on-demand and value-added services would emerge as the next big business opportunity for both television channels and also telecom operators. The Director and Founder of Apalya (mobility in Sanskrit) Technologies, Mr Shiva Bayyapunedi, who worked extensively on mobile phone technologies during his tenure in Finland, gave up his job to form this company along with Mr B. Vamshi Reddy, to develop products that cater to video on demand for mobile phones.
Mobile TV
Speaking to Business Line, Mr Shiva Bayyapunedi said that Mobile TV is set to become the next major application in the telecom industry. With Apalya's technology and services, it would be possible to offer movies on demand, news as they see on television now, watch live sports feeds and other movie clips. The content can also be personalised. The company has developed a platform that helps offer these services. It is set for commercial launch later in the quarter. The company said it has tied up with media companies that include Times Now, Zoom, CNBC, India TV, Cartoon Network, TV9 and MAA TV.
