Our Bureau

Visakhapatnam May 28 The Joint Action Forum of the Bharat Heavy Plate and Vessels Employees' unions here has urged the Union Government to expedite the proposed merger of the unit with BHEL.

In a statement issued here on Monday, the forum leaders said they had met the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, recently in New Delhi and submitted a memorandum to him on the issue and that Dr Singh had promised to look into it. They expressed hope that he would act on the promise and take expeditious steps.

The memorandum submitted to Dr Singh, containing the signatures of a thousand employees, reminded the Prime Minister of his promise a year ago when he visited the city on reviving the BHPV and also the avowed objective of the UPA Government to revive sick public sector units.
