Shipping Industry & Economy - Environment States - Kerala Environmental clearance for fishing harbour Our Bureau
Thiruvananthapuram May 29 The proposed fishing harbour at Chettuva in Thrissur district, has obtained the clearance from the Union Ministry for Environment and Forest. This is the first fishing harbour being developed in the district and is estimated to cost Rs. 21.27 crore. The Fisheries Minister, Mr S. Sarma, had submitted a detailed project report on the harbour to the Union Agriculture Minister, Mr Sharad Pawar, on July 28, 2006. The harbour will benefit 460 mechanised boats and more than 200 traditional fishing crafts, covering about 5,000 fishermen and as many related workers. The Centre is expected to include the project for 50 per cent assistance and give final clearance in the current year itself.
New ATMs
Canara Bank has opened two new ATMs in Thiruvananthapuram city on Tuesday. Mr P. Mohanan, General Manager of the bank, while inaugurating the new ATMs, said that 40 more ATMs would be opened in Kerala in the current year.
