`DD channels mandatory on cable'

Our Bureau

New Delhi, May 29

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Tuesday directed all cable operators to carry Doordarshan channels on their network. As per Prasar Bharati's notifications mandated by sub-section (3) of section 8 of the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995, cable operators have to carry certain Doordarshan channels in prime band while a few other channels in non-prime band, TRAI said in a statement here. The decision was taken after it came to the notice of the regulatory body that some cable operators were not following these notifications. Any violation may lead to prosecution of the errant cable operators under the TRAI Act, 1997.
