Tuticorin port handles record granite blocks

Madurai May 30 The Tuticorin port has handled 4.53 lakh tonnes of granite blocks, the highest in a year so far, during 2006-07, the cargo coming from Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. The port created a record on May 22, by loading 9,107 tonnes of granite blocks to the vessel, `m.v. Leeds castle', an official press release, said.

Halifax Delegation

A delegation from Halifax Port Authority (HPA), Canada visited the port recently to discuss trade development opportunities between the Tutitorin port and Port of Halifax. The delegation consisting of Mr Ian Oulton, Chairman, and Ms Karen Oldfield, President and CEO of HPA, accompanied by Mr Cyrus Kargara, Ambassador (India), HPA, held discussions with the senior port officials and the District Administration. Mr A. Subbiah, Deputy Chairman, TPT, explained about the future development projects of the port.
