New apparel training centre opening today

Our Bureau

Coimbatore May 30 Tamil Nadu will have its third apparel training and design centre (ATDC) sponsored by the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC).

The new ATDC being located at Nallampalli in the backward Dharmapuri district will be run with the support of the Dharmapuri district administration. The other two ATDCs now functioning in the State are in Chennai and Tirupur.

According to a communication from the AEPC, Tirupur, the Dharmapuri ATDC would in a year train around 600 to 1,000 persons.

The council has chosen to locate the ATDC centre at Nallampalli considering the sizeable number of garmenting units that had set up their operations in and around Dharmapuri, which also has a large pool of unemployed youth.

The new ATDC will also pave way for generating employment and productivity levels, the communication added.

The Union Minister of State for Textiles, Mr E.V.K.S. Elangovan, will formally inaugurate the Nallampalli ATDC tomorrow in which the State Agriculture Minister, Mr Veerapandi Arumugam, is expected to participate.
