Our Bureau

Bangalore May 30 Foodworld Supermarkets Ltd plans to invest Rs 80 crore every year in its expansion plan that involves opening stores under various formats. Mr Norman Yum, CEO, Foodworld Supermarkets Ltd, said: "The target is to have 200 Foodworld stores in the country in different formats such as hypermarkets, supermarkets, express stores and concept stores by 2009."

Foodworld operates about 60 stores in Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai. We are also eyeing North India and Mumbai to set up stores, said Mr Yum.

Mr Yum was present at the launch of the company's first concept store in the country — Gourmet — which promises to offer customers an "international food experience" through a range of vegetables, fruits, marinated meat and seafood. The 2,800 sq. ft. store in Bangalore also stocks organic food, dairy and bakery products from around the world.

Some of the products on offer are — low-fat dairy products from India and around the world, cheese and cold cuts from Italy, France, the Netherlands and Switzerland, organic vegetables, rice, dals, spices, pickles, jams and tea, and bakery products from Asia and Europe.

Foodworld plans to open more Gourmet stores in Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad by the end of the year.
