LOWER OUTPUT: Chana (chickpea) being packed at a shop in Kochi, Kerala. Chana prices are likely to remain firm on drop in output in major producing States such as Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan due to heavy rains and lack of carryover stocks.

Chana production in 2005-06 has been estimated at 45 lakh tonnes, while consumption has been projected at 60 lakh tonnes.
