Lepakshi expo in Kochi

Apart from Kochi, Lepakshi is also planning to organise such exhibition-cum-sale in Kottayam, Kollam and Kozhikode.

Kochi June 1 Lepakshi, a 12-day exhibition-cum-sale, organised by Lepakshi Handicrafts Emporium of the Andhra Pradesh Handicrafts Development Corporation has commenced here.

Lepakshi is organising the sale in Kochi since 1989 and this time it is arranging a new range of white metal goods for the first time. Mr K.V. Subbanna, Manager, Lepakshi Handicrafts Emporium, said there was encouraging response from customers in Kerala and they had collected an amount of Rs 18 lakh from the 10-day sale last year as against the target of Rs 15 lakh.

Special Items

Apart from Kochi, Lepakshi is also planning to organise such exhibition- cum-sale in Kottayam, Kollam and Kozhikode, he added. The special items on display include hand woven sarees from Pochampalli, Gadwal, Narayanpet, Mangalagiri and Rich South Silks etc. Special discounts were offered on handicrafts and handlooms in the sale.

The Andhra Pradesh Handicrafts Development Corporation organises such exhibitions in various prominent places throughout the country to popularise the traditional crafts and to help the craft person to increase their earnings by way of sales in these exhibitions. The corporation invites artisans, craft persons in different craft media to demonstrate and sell their production directly to customers through these programmes.

The corporation is also participating in International Trade Fairs to assess the demand for the Andhra Handicrafts and to explore the possibility of entering into the export market.

Training Programmes

The recent participation in these fairs organised in the US, the UK and Germany has drawn good response and could secure export orders to the tune of Rs 7 lakh in the current year.

During the current year, the corporation is planning to conduct training programmes in Nirmal Painting, stone carving, veena making, brass art ware and silver filigree.
