Hidesign plans more overseas stores

Our Bureau

Bangalore June 1 The Puducherry-based retailer of luxury leather goods Hidesign has big designs for the global market.

It will be opening four more exclusive stores in Shanghai and add another to its existing outlet in Hong Kong. Capetown and Abu Dhabi are also in the radar for opening of the outlets.

Global presence

The retailer already has a store each in Shanghai, Hong Kong and the US, apart from two stores in Russia and three in Dubai.

Mr Dilip Kapur, President, Hidesign, said the company is eyeing the US market keenly as "cost of labour is cheaper and prices are the same as in Europe."

"We are looking at San Diego, San Francisco and the Californian coastal cities," said Mr Kapur, who was in the city in connection with `The Shop' — a two-day conference on retail in South India.

Expansion plans

In India, the Rs 101-crore company has 37 stores. About 21 more locations have been booked, most of which are mall based. He hopes that at least 12 of them would materialise this year.

Hidesign, which is growing at 30 per cent, is targeting a turnover of Rs 130 crore this year.
