Alliances & Joint Ventures NetXcell inks pact with US co for value-added services Our Bureau
Hyderabad June 1 NetXCell, a value-added solutions (VAS) provider for telecom companies, has partnered with the US-based Lifestyle Wireless to provide it with a solution to offer new services through pre-paid cards to be sold through retail network. As part of this deal, NetXcell will host a daily text alert service for content in up to 30 categories and will provide Web access to subscription data, usage reports and customer service data. Mr Eric Lofdahl, CTO of Lifestyle Wireless, said that the US market, with over 220 million subscribers, continued to expand. "We believe that value-added services such as sports, lifestyle and Bible alerts would be a new avenue for growth." The company is close to firming up plans with retail chains for point-of-sales arrangement. Mr Debasis Chatterji, Director of Operations, NetXcell, said that the US mobile VAS market was growing rapidly and is estimated at $800 million. This growth is further fuelled by new applications that can be handled by handheld devices. Through this arrangement with Lifestyle, it proposes to deliver content of choice with daily alerts. Typically, a mobile phone user, irrespective of the carrier, can pick up pre-paid card at select retail outlets in the US and enjoy alerts on mobile phones. "We see this move as the next big opportunity. The US market is lot more defined and the revenue share model would help generate revenues as more people buy these cards," Mr Chatterji said. NetXcell partners BSNL and the Multi Commodity Exchange, enabling CellOne users to track various commodities and prices through alerts.
