Aurobindo drug gets USFDA nod

Hyderabad, June 5

Aurobindo Pharma Ltd (APL) has announced that the US Food and Drug Administration (US FDA) has approved one more of its cephalosporins. This time it is from its third-generation range, Cefpodoxime proxetil for oral suspension in the strengths of 50mg/5ml and 100mg/5ml that the US regulator has given the nod, according to a company release.

This is the 6th cephalosporin approval for APL. With this, the company has representation in each of the first three generations of cephalosporin antibiotics. Cefpodoxime is the generic version of Pharmacia Upjohns, `Vantin'. Cefpodoxime is mostly used to treat acute otitis media, community acquired pneumoniae, uncomplicated urinary tract infections and also skin infections. The company is the proven leader in this segment/product range in several markets in the world.
