SBI officers to strike on June 8

Our Bureau

New Delhi June 5 As many as 65,000 officers of State Bank of India (SBI) are to go on a day's strike on June 8.

The decision to observe a day's strike is a fallout of the management's move to go back on certain understandings reached on May 15, according to Mr T.N. Goel, Senior Vice-President of the All-India State Bank Officers' Federation.

work-to-rule

Mr Goel said that the "work-to-rule" programme, observed from May 1 by officers, were held in abeyance after an understanding reached on May 15.

"But they (management) have gone back on the understanding reached on May 15. The officers are not left with any other alternative but to proceed on a day's strike on June 8," he said.

All SBI branches/offices throughout the country will remain closed on June 8.

A massive demonstration has also been planned for the strike day in the Capital.
