Our Bureau

Thiruvananthapuram June 5 Software exports from Kerala crossed Rs 700 crore in 2006-07.

A lion's share of the exports was accounted for by companies located in the Technopark here.

The major companies on the export front were US Technologies, IBS, SunTech and NeST, according to Mr K.R. Jyothilal, Secretary (IT).

The growth in exports was around 50 per cent compared to 33 per cent at the national level. This augured well for the State's march towards attaining the status of a leading IT destination in the country, he said.

Mr Jyothilal also said that several companies had started operations in the State in the past year and many more had come forward to set up shop.

MAJOR PRESENCE

Besides, companies such as IBS, NeST, Case Consultants, Tata Elxsi, TCS, Infosys and US Technologies have decided to start their own campuses within the Technopark.

At the Infopark in Kochi, the Government has decided to construct a building with an area of four lakh sq ft.

There too, companies like Wipro, IBS and TCS are set to establish their own campuses, Mr Jyothilal said.

Besides, infrastructure developers such as L&T, the Leela Group, Sobha Developers, Cochin International Airport Ltd and the Muthoot Group have expressed interest to launch ventures in the State and have also started preliminary work on them.

The State would occupy a prominent place in the country's IT map once the proposed Smart City in Kochi, Technocity in Thiruvananthapuram and small IT parks in other districts materialise, Mr Jyothilal added.
