Ahmedabad June 6 Clara International Salons (CIS), the Malaysia-based leading skin and beauty care group, is set to open 10 franchised centres in India this year and eyeing the Rs 300-500-crore skin care business in the country.

Clara, which opened its first skin care clinic in Mumbai in October 2006, has opened its second clinic here. It is now planning to open similar centres in Lucknow, Kochi, the metros and other cities, said Ms Veena Munganahalli, Managing Director of Vividha Salons and Spas Private Ltd (VSSPL), Mumbai, and Master Franchisee of Clara for India, except Delhi and Punjab.

Clara is planning to open more centres in Gujarat, including five in Ahmedabad alone this year.

Ms Munganahalli told Business Line that only three per cent of the 60,000-odd beauty care salons in India was in the organised sector, which is estimated to be between Rs 300 crore and Rs 500 crore per annum in the next three to five years.

Clara's products are customised and climate-specific. The $10-million turnover company set up in 1977 now has about 100 salons in 12 countries, has its factories in Malaysia and China and may consider having a third one in India in the next few years. In China, it has many salons while in Myanmar, it has opened four in the last two years.

Dr Clara Chee, Founder and Managing Director of the ISO 9001:2000 company, informed that the company's products are made using selective nanotechnology and customised for tropical and temperate, hot and humid climate prevalent in most parts of Asia.

Every CIS skin technician is professionally qualified and certified by the Clara International Aesthetic College (CIAC) and its global network. CIAC is the largest internationally recognised beauty academy which has been given the status of a higher education centre by the Education Ministry of Malaysia.
