Alternative Medicines Web Extras - Exports & Imports Cluster-based approach to promote herbal, ayurvedic exports Our Bureau
Hyderabad June 6 To harness the export potential of herbal and Ayurvedic products, a cluster-based approach for Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy is likely to be in place soon. About 20 manufacturing clusters for Ayush (Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha, and Homoeopathy) were proposed to be set up during the 11th Plan period with on outlay of Rs 500 crore, Ms Anita Das, Secretary, Department of Ayush, told newspersons here on Wednesday.
A collaborative approach between the industry and the Government was being worked out, the official said. World class common facilities in the areas of technical support and product testing would be put in place in clusters for making the small and medium enterprises globally competitive, She said adding that the industry should come forward to shoulder 25 per cent of the cluster maintenance cost.
Combinations
About 50 complex combinations from India would be harmonised with the pharmacopias of different countries the publication of which was likely by August. Efforts were also on to ensure that the manufacturers would at least meet the Indian certification standards to attract international buyers, Ms Das said.
Earlier, while speaking at a workshop on the `Road map for promotion of exports of herbal and ayurvedic products' Pharmaceutical Export Promotion Council (Pharmexcil), Ms Das stressed the need for joint efforts by manufacturers in research, information sharing, and sourcing and technical audit of raw materials.
Many industry representatives and officials were also present in the workshop.
