SAIL identifies projects for CDM

Our Bureau

Kolkata, June 7

SAIL has embarked on the road to Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and identified projects in the integrated steel plants to ensure a clean environment. Rourkela Steel Plant is a pioneer in this process followed by the Bhilai Steel Plant, said Mr G. Ojha, Director (Personnel) and in-charge of the Raw Materials Division, at a programme jointly organised by SAIL's Environment Management Division and the Growth Division on the occasion of World Environment Day in Kolkata, says a press release.

Lately, the SAIL board has cleared the wind farm project in Tamil Nadu, which will utilise the wind energy available in that region. SAIL has also installed solar streetlights in villages neighbouring its units and is working on similar projects in other areas, adds the release.
