The Global Alumni Association of Bengal Engineering & Science University (GAABESU), Shibpur, has urged the West Bengal Government to upgrade BESU to an Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology before November, according to Mr S.P. Datta, Working President of the association. "BESU is celebrating its 150th anniversary from November 2006 to November 2007. The upgradation at this time will be the most befitting way to honour the contributions of this institute," Mr Datta told newspersons here today. According to Mr Datta, the Ministry of Human Resources Development recently conveyed to the State Government the decision to upgrade BESU.
