Malvinder Mohan is Fortis chief

Our Bureau

New Delhi, June 8

Mr Malvinder Mohan Singh has been appointed Chairman of the Ranbaxy-promoted Fortis Healthcare. The company, headed by Mr Singh's younger brother, Mr Shivinder Mohan Singh, CEO, Fortis Healthcare, informed BSE that Mr Harpal Singh has stepped down from the position of Chairman, while continuing as a non-executive member of the board. The board elected Mr Malvinder Mohan Singh, CEO and MD, Ranbaxy, as the new Chairman.

The management of Fortis Healthcare, which has just come out of a public fallout with former Executive Director of Escorts Heart Institute and Research Centre, declined to comment. However, it said that the "internal change was on the basis of the change that had happened in Ranbaxy". In April, Mr Harpal Singh was elected Non-Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ranbaxy. He had been a director on the Board of the Gurgaon-based pharmaceutical company since July 2000.
