PVR Q4 net rises

New Delhi June 8 PVR Ltd, the multiplex chain, has announced 148 per cent growth in net profits to Rs 2.21 crore for the fourth quarter ended March, compared to Rs 89 lakh in the corresponding previous period.

Net sales grew 65 per cent to Rs 40.63 crore (Rs 24.62 crore), while operating profit rose 87 per cent to Rs 8.42 crore (Rs 4.49 crore).

For the year ended March, net profit grew 93 per cent to Rs 10.56 crore (Rs 5.4 crore), net sales rose 60 per cent to Rs 164.09 crore (Rs 103.02 crore).

During the year, the company added 31 screens, taking its total to 82 across the country.

"We entertained about 14.7 million customers in our cinemas in 2006-07 against 8.78 million customers last year, a growth of 68 per cent," said Mr Ajay Bijli, Chairman and Managing Director, in a release.

"We intend to grow horizontally and vertically by strengthening our presence in film exhibition and distribution, besides entering into innovative retail entertainment concepts," he added.

PVR has about 50 multiplex screens under various stages of construction.

These are expected to be operational within 12 months.
