Kamal Nath to meet exporters on June 13

K.R. Srivats

New Delhi June 8 In response to the plea by the exporting community to counter the impact of appreciating rupee against the dollar, the Commerce and Industry Minister, Mr Kamal Nath, is to hold a meeting with FIEO and heads of various export promotion councils on June 13.

With the rupee having strengthened by about eight per cent this year, the SME export sector has been particularly hit even as the appreciation has helped control inflation in the economy.

Sources in the exporting community said that the rupee has appreciated by more than 14 per cent from its low of 47.04 touched in July 2006.

Soon after releasing this year's Annual Supplement to the Foreign Trade Policy in mid-April, Mr Kamal Nath had announced plans to meet various EPCs on this issue.
