BM Birla Heart plans acquisitions

Our Bureau

Kolkata June 9 BM Birla Heart Research Centre is firming up plans to acquire a couple of hospitals in eastern India. The centre also proposes to tie-up management contracts with at least two hospitals abroad by the year-end, according to Mr Suyash Borar, Chief Operating Officer.

While announcing the launch of the `Centre for Complete Cardiac Care', Mr Borar said: "We hope to acquire a hospital in eastern India by July this year. We are also discussing another acquisition in eastern India and also have plans to take over management control of a couple of other hospitals abroad," he said.

He, however, declined to name the proposed acquisitions. The centre will invest more than Rs 100 crore to fund these acquisitions.

According to Mr Borar, the investment will be funded through a combination of debt and internal accruals of the healthcare entity.

The centre also has plans to set up a chain of 40 diagnostic units in eastern India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan over the next five years. Initially, the centre will set up these units on a franchise basis.
