China, Pak tourists increase

China and Pakistan are emerging as major tourist-source markets in Asia for India, with visitors from the two countries registering sizeable increase in the past few years. Tourist arrival from China witnessed a 32 per cent increase in 2005 at 44,897 visitors, compared to 2004, while Pakistani tourist arrival jumped 31 per cent at 88,609 in 2005, according to FICCI.

The UK continued to occupy the first position amongst the top ten source markets for tourist arrivals to India at 6,51,083 visitors, followed by the US at 6,11,165. Overall, India received 3,91,8610 foreign tourists in 2005, according to the Chamber.
