PSU general insurers clock rise in premium

Kochi June 11 The premium collected by the four Government general insurance companies in Kerala increased by 14 per cent to Rs 769.47 crore in 2006-07, up from Rs 674.66 crore during the previous year.

"United India Insurance, Oriental Insurance, National Insurance and New India Assurance recorded remarkable performance despite competition from private players," said Mr P.P. Mohanan, Vice-President of General Insurance Officers All India Association, Kerala.

In the Kerala region, United India maintained its first position with premium collection growing 11 per cent to Rs 216.25 crore (Rs 194.84 crore), a release said.

Oriental Insurance stood second with premium collection growing by 21 per cent to Rs 200.65 crore (Rs 165.81 crore).
