New Projects States - Andhra Pradesh KPR Fert factory to open today Our Bureau
Kakinada June 11 The KPR Fertilisers plant, set up at a cost of Rs 20 crore at Bikkavolu in East Godavari district to manufacture single super phosphate (SSP) and complex fertilisers, is to be opened on Tuesday by the Agriculture Minister, Mr N. Raghuveera Reddy. Mr K. Rajasekhara Reddy, Executive Director, told newspersons on Monday that the factory would produce 60,000 tonnes of SSP and 40,000 tonnes of complex fertilisers annually.
DEMAND-SUPPLY GAP
"There is a huge demand-supply gap for SSP in Andhra Pradesh. It is estimated that five lakh tonnes is required but the actual availability is only 1.2 lakh tonnes. Our factory will bridge the gap to an extent," he said. He added that Andhra Bank had lent Rs 12.5 crore for setting up the factory, which would provide direct employment to 300 persons and indirect employment to roughly the same number. Rock phosphate required for manufacturing SSP would be imported through Kakinada port from Jordan. SSP is being sold at Rs 175 per 50-kg bag, with the Government providing subsidy to the extent of Rs 975 a tonne.
