Changi, Tatas jointly bid for three airports in Karnataka

Our Bureau

Mumbai June 11 Singapore-based Changi Airports International Pte Ltd has bid jointly with the Tata group to develop three airports in Karnataka.

The Tata group will have 51 per cent stake in the joint venture and Changi Airports, 49 per cent.

Bids have been submitted by the two companies for the development of three small airports in Gulbarga, Shimoga and Bijapur, said Mr Ng Tim Peng, Regional Vice-President, Changi Airports International, on the sidelines of a conference held by the Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation in Mumbai on Monday.

The bids were submitted last month after the Karnataka Government invited expressions of interest for the projects. The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore entirely owns Changi International Airports.

Other aviation industry companies talked about their plans for expansion or entry into India.

Jet Airways' Executive Director, Mr Saroj K. Dutta, said that the airline is going to lease six to eight more Boeing 737 aircraft in next 18 months. All of them will fly on the domestic routes.

Mr Robert Johnson, CEO, Dubai Aerospace Enterprise said the company is looking at India in a big way, and has plans for a number of tie-ups for aircraft maintenance and airports development.
