AFFECTING LIVELIHOOD: Paddy being dried by farmers in Kukurmara village, 50 km from Guwahati, as rain water inundated their agricultural fields. Assam is primarily an agricultural State where 90 per cent of its population is dependent on rice production. Continuous monsoon rain in the last couple of days has submerged thousands of hectares of crop fields in the State. The water levels of the Brahmaputra and its tributaries are rising, which is causing flood threat.
