Firms up plans to acquire mining rights in other States

The Singareni management has asserted that it did not have any role to play in the seven bocks to be offered for captive mining in the Godavari valley region.

Hyderabad June 12 The State-owned Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) has identified some bocks with coal potential in the Godavari Valley area.

The mining company plans to exploit these new blocks through its arm Singareni Exploration.

As part of the company's efforts to expand the business, Singareni is also looking to acquire mining blocks in other States.

Towards this move, Singareni is firming up plans and has partnered with National Thermal Power Corporation to commence coal mining in other States.

In a statement, the Singareni management has asserted that it did not have any role to play in the seven bocks to be offered for captive mining in the Godavari valley region. This will be decided by the Coal Ministry. It may be recalled that seven mining blocks were to be offered for captive use in 2000.

Of the seven blocks on offer for captive use, mines in the Taticherla, Anisettipali, Kunukulachilaka and Penagadapa, have been allotted to the State-owned power company AP Genco and the remaining three blocks for other companies. However, all of these seven blocks are awaiting Central nod for exploitation for captive use only.

The Singareni management also refuted some recent concerns expressed about the company's move to allot coal blocks to private organisations as such a move is based on the Central Government decision.

The power to allocate such blocks vests with the Coal Ministry and the Singareni management has no role to play.
