Human Resources SpiceJet pilots will fly Oman Air planes Our Bureau
New Delhi June 12 SpiceJet will provide its pilots to Oman Air. In a statement, the domestic airline has said that the first batch of six first officers would reach Muscat next week to work with Oman Air for one year. "We have excess pilots and are putting their technical training to better use through the tie-up with Oman Air," a SpiceJet official said, when queried on the rationale behind sending pilots abroad when there is a shortage of trained pilots within the country. While its pilots may start flying in the international skies, the airline cannot operate internationally as per existing Indian laws. Currently, the laws require an airline to have a fleet of 20 aircraft and five years of domestic operations before being eligible to operate internationally. SpiceJet does not meet either of these criteria. The airline started operations two years ago and currently has a fleet of 11 Boeing 737 aircraft.
