Kolkata June 13 Durgapur Steel Plant (DSP) has reported its best-ever performance in in May 2007. Production of hot metal in May 2007 at 1,93,002 tonnes, crude steel at 1,71,402 tonnes and saleable steel at 1,50,009 tonnes were 109 per cent, 112 per cent and 111 per cent of the rated capacity, respectively. According to a communiqué received from DSP, the production of hot metal, crude steel and saleable steel in May 2007 was higher by 11 per cent, five per cent and three per cent, respectively against the corresponding period of 2006. Sinter production at 2,57,903 tonnes, blend mix at 3,65,475 tonnes, wheel and axle plant at 2,942 tonnes and oven pushing at 310 units per day were also best-ever May performances. Production at the continuous casting plant stood at 96,712 tonnes, recording 145 per cent of rated capacity. The communiqué states that special steel despatch to Alloy Steels Plant stood at a high of 4,205 tonnes in May 2007 even as production of special steels stood at 36,057 tonnes, or 24 per cent of the total saleable steel production. Export of high quality CCP billets stood at 20,822 tonnes.
