Yamaha Motors plans more bike models from 2008

Our Bureau

Coimbatore June 13 Yamaha Motor India plans to release more new models over the next two years to take advantage of the robust growth in the two-wheeler segment.

"The 12-15 per cent average annual growth seen for the two-wheeler market is expected to last for the next five years or so and we'll use this opportunity to increase our share," said Mr N. Srikanth, Tamil Nadu regional business head of Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt Ltd.

Officially launching the new motorcycle model `Yamaha Alba 106' for the Tamil Nadu market here, Mr Srikanth said his company has 8 per cent share in the State's motorbike market and 6 per cent countrywide and hopes to increase its market share to 10 per cent in the next two years.

Mr Roy Kurien, Yamaha's south India zonal manager, said at the launch that Yamaha would line up newer models continuously from 2008 onwards.

The Yamaha Alba 106, billed as the family bike and positioned between the `Libero G5' and `Crux' models, comes in two variants — spoke-wheel model at Rs 38,500 (ex-showroom price tag) and alloy steel wheeled deluxe model (Rs 40,500 ex-showroom) — and in four colours.

The model features ergonomically designed seat, knee recess for better grip, broader 13-litre fuel tank and four-speed constant mesh gearbox.

It offers a mileage of 65 km per litre, and 75 km per litre in ideal road conditions, Yamaha officials said. The company has also introduced `Yamaha protection plus', an extended five-year warranty for its two wheelers.
